- (differential geometry) A homeomorphism that bijects between the subsets of the images of two overlapping coordinate charts that are shared in the preimage: For (U_1, \varphi_1) and (U_2, \varphi_2) coordinate charts with U_1 \cap U_2 \neq \emptyset, the transition functions \varphi_{12} = \varphi_2 \circ \varphi_1^{-1} and its inverse \varphi_{21} = \varphi_1 \circ \varphi_2^{-1} may be constructed.
